An exhibition depicting over twenty original works of art by the artist Julie H Winter. These paintings show the artist’s skill with a pallet knife and her passion for the landscape of Ayrshire.

Julie aims to capture a moment in time, a gentle breeze or the imminent weather front creeping in, the lapping of a wave or the setting of the illusive sun.

Hope to see you there. Julie H Winter.

Prince Charles talks about how he helped save Dumfries house and what a treasure it is. Ayrshire is a great place to visit, especially with the beautiful landscapes, interesting wildlife sightings, the  Burn’s Corridor and now the added attraction of Dumfries House. We have just had a wonderful couple stay with us, who were thrilled to stay here right in the middle of Burns country. Although the couple came from further a field, they had family connections with this area and were attending a wedding at Lochside House Hotel, just on the outskirts of New Cumnock, sandwiched between Cumnock and New Cumnock on the A76.

We gave the couple a lift down to the wedding venue and ordered a local taxi for them to come back, which was more cost-effective that the hotel ordering one from Cumnock.

I do love it when guests enjoy the books we have gathered about the local area. One such book called ‘Lost Aryshire’ had a picture of a church that our guest used to attend with her mum when she was a child. Unfortunately it is no longer there, but the couple did visit Afton Reservoir, which was something the family used to do for a treat, when the children were younger.

This image is a recent work I did when teaching about portraits in respect of capturing an exquisite sort of light. This painting came out looking like my Mother’s Dr. though this was not the intention.

Who do you think this looks like?

Last year I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere at the Holy fair, so this year I decided to join in with the fun. Here are some of the small works that I’ll be selling on my stall. I do hope you can pop along and enjoy the day too.

Along with these small works I’ll be selling hand painted silk cushions and silk scarves on a Scottish theme. I’ll also have some small paintings based on the places that Robert Burns would have visited. The sample below offers an example of such a place.

Bex listened well to some basic art tuition about construction lines and shading and was able to produce very pleasing results.

Developing Drawing Skills

Rebecca comes from an artistic family, however she was the musician of the family. Having developed her drawing skills today she knows that she too has the family genes.

Owen is always ready to try something new, though he keeps returning to the potter’s wheel, he must love the texture of the wet clay.

And Julia got to grips with an atmospheric sky in her watercolour painting. She has learnt to use a crumpled tissue to take away some of the wet paint.

Bex, Martyn and young Owen thoroughly enjoyed their first full day out of the city, exploring Doon Valley, just 20 minutes by car from our B & B.
